Food Pantry Update

May 24th, 2008 | Uncategorized

Thanks to some wonderful support from friends and neighbors, our soup kitchen and food pantry has been able to continue providing dinner and groceries to hungry people in North Brooklyn. Each week seems to bring increasing numbers of people (last week we provided groceries to 215 people), but miraculously we have managed to keep up. We almost ran out of food again this week. Thanks to a perfectly timed surprise pick up truck full of food that arrived at the church Friday morning, we have enough canned goods to make it through next week. A special thank you goes out to the employees of ExxonMobile who are working to clean up the Newtown Creek. They read about the incredible need we’re experiencing, and started a food drive - all on their own. What a true blessing!

If you, your company or another organization would like to hold a fundraiser, collect canned goods, or make a donation - feel free to do so! We are going to continue to need as much help from our community as possible in order to keep up with the demand for food.

And thank you to everyone who has helped with this effort. Our church is a small organization, and we could never manage this effort alone. It’s thanks to the entire community of people who care about Greenpoint that this important work is being accomplished.
