Ministries

We share a strong commitment to live out Christ’s instruction to “love our neighbors.” And so, a year and a half ago, the congregation identified three focus areas for putting our faith into action.

* Emergency Needs. A number of people knock on the church’s door when they are homeless, hungry or in need of medical care. How do we respond to them?
* Encouraging the Arts. Our community is home to countless artists and musicians. How can we support and encourage their creativity?
* Affordable Housing. Many of our neighbors cannot afford to live in Greenpoint due to skyrocketing rents and real estate values. What can we do to advocate for affordable housing for all?

What have we done so far? Realizing that Greenpoint lacks a publicized food program and that Jesus instructs us to feed his sheep, the church now offers a weekly food pantry and dinner program. Because so many neighbors are concerned about being able to stay in the neighborhood, we’re organizing a series of teach-ins on affordable housing. And we’ve been hosting monthly Music on Milton nights, opening our building to local artists and have created an art gallery in the church parlor.

There’s lots more that can be done, but we need everyone’s ideas. If you would like to get involved, please let us know! This is a way for everyone to participate in helping our community, and we need as many thoughts and ideas as possible.
