Food Pantry & Dinner
There are far too many people who are hungry in Greenpoint. Several people ring the church’s doorbell each month looking for a meal or some canned goods. In the Bible, Jesus clearly commands us to feed all God’s people. Because of this, our congregation is taking a leap of faith and developing two programs to help feed hungry people in New York City.
Groceries are given out at the church on Wednesdays from 4-7pm and a yummy dinner is served from 6-7pm. There are no requirements to participate. All people are welcome regardless of their faith background or economic situation.
Your help is needed! Please volunteer. This project needs people to cook and serve meals and to organize and hand out grocery bags on Wednesdays. If you can’t make it on Wednesday evening, don’t fret - there are other ways that you can help in this effort. Please email info [at] greenpointchurch [dot] org if you are interested.
Please consider making a donation to the food pantry and dinner. Each bag of groceries contains mac & cheese, a can of fruit, a can of veggies, a can of soup, cereal, pasta, peanut butter, a can of meat and a can of beans. As of Thanksgiving Eve, we are handing out an average of 50 bags a week and our entire supply of these items has been completely handed out. Cans and boxed food can be left in the collection box in the church parlor or outside the front door of the church.
We supplement the food that is donated directly to the church by purchasing food at a discount grocery store. We are able to make a complete bag of groceries for $6.75. A gift of $67.00 can provide a week’s groceries to 10 people. You can donate securely online by clicking on the button below.
