A Wonderful Thanksgiving at the Soup Kitchen & Food Pantry
November 25th, 2010 | Uncategorized Thank you to everyone who helped make Thanksgiving so special at the soup kitchen and food pantry Wednesday. We had tons of volunteers, lots of delicious food, and plenty of good times. Groceries were given out to over 425 individuals. Over 80 people enjoyed a wonderful turkey meal, and everyone left feeling Thanksgiving-full.Special thanks to Councilman Steve Levin, who found time in his busy schedule to stop in and say hello. More photos will follow, but for now here’s one with some of the many volunteers and Councilman Levin.
And thanks to the Brooklyn Kitchen and Dan Delaney for making this great video about Thanksgiving at the soup kitchen.
Support the Kitchen & Pantry
November 24th, 2010 | UncategorizedThe Greenpoint Reformed Church Hunger Program provides no-cost groceries and a weekly hot meal to hungry people in Northern Brooklyn. It takes $6,000 per week to feed all these people. Much of the money comes from government food programs, but we still need $1,500 per week for additional food and things like utilities, building maintenance, volunteer coordination and overall administration.
We are able to buy food from the Food Bank of NYC for 10-18 cents a pound. For example, a case of 12 cans of Progresso soup costs $3.06 (almost $.25 per can) and box of Cheerios costs $.27.
You can donate in three ways:
Check: Write a check payable to The Greenpoint Reformed Church. If you want your donation to support a specific program (eg. the food pantry) please note it in the memo field. Send donations to:
