Building Blocks Sunday School

A JOURNEY THROUGH GENESIS

*MAY 6, 2012 IS CHILDREN’S SUNDAY! Mark your calendar and bring your child for a special commissioning to close out our first year of Sunday School. Whether you’ve come once or a dozen times, all children are welcomed for this special Sunday!*

This week and next:

4/22-We will journey with Joseph as he gets sold into slavery by his brothers, with the theme of perseverance

4/29-We will prepare for children’s Sunday by looking at some of the most memorable stories over the course of this first year, and start teaching our children a song to be sung in worship

Previous weeks:

4/15-We once again returned to discussions about dreams, this time looking at Joseph’s dreamcoat and the jealousy of his brothers, with the theme of learning to love ourselves and what we are good at, instead of jealousy

4/8-We had a special Easter Sunday School where children will learn exactly why this is such an important holiday to celebrate!

4/1-We watched the wrestling match between Jacob and God, when God finally blesses Jacob and calls him Israel (literally meaning “he who wrestles with God”), with the theme of learning to stand your ground even in spite of overwhelming obstacles (e.g. staying strong when bad things come our way).

~We are excited have a very special guest this week, as the Puppetsburg Puppets will be here to give their own spin to this story! Don’t miss out!~

3/17-We discussed the sibling rivalry between Jacob and Esau, with the theme of understanding how playing tricks on people can affect them

3/10-We entered into the sacrificial moments of Abraham as he ascends up the mountain with Issac, with the theme of listening to God, particularly in the moments right before we do something rash

3/3-We uncovered the story of Hagar (Abram’s servant), and their child, Ishmael with the theme of God’s love for those who are most in need

Kickoff Announcement:

Do you have children? Or know families who do? Well spread the word around, Sunday School is here! This January 29, 2012, Greenpoint Reformed Church is proud to offer its first ever expansive youth program. Whether your children have never been to church or have been going for years, you are welcomed with open arms to our youth program. Our mission is to develop an environment of love and compassion through biblical tradition, both old and new, by having fun and engaging activities suited for children of all ages.

This will be a uniquely wonderful experience that children will be able to carry with them throughout their lives, providing a positive understanding of both religion and the church. Lessons will take place in the basement of Greenpoint every Sunday at 11:00am, which has been vastly renovated to foster an atmosphere of learning, along with a fully developed curriculum and safe-sanctuary policy!

If you have children, know of children in the neighborhood who might be interested, want to teach, or simply would like more information on our program, please contact Rix Thorsell at rix@greenpointchurch.org.
